Boats and Diving Gears

One hour at the Swiss Transport Museum, in the Navigation building. Tried to sketch some model boats but it was much more difficult than expected. The shape of the hull reminds me of modern cars, very difficult to get right because there are no clear shapes. I tried to recover with some diving gear equipments but lost patience with some sketches and made errors. But I am quite happy with the overall shapes of the headgear.

  1. Boats are always tough. I think it's due to the nature of very complex curves and surfaces requiring intense perspective foreshortening. You handled the subject exceptionally well, louisC, I enjoyed your sketches: they tell a great story!

  3. Dmitri: Thanks!, if they had wheels it would be easier to get the proportions right ;)
Steve: Thanks, the helmet is also my favourite and I think it works because the shapes are very simple, it's a sphere on a cube! If they are in place with the right perspective/proportion, even if you mess up some details like I did, it can still look decent. Contrast this with the pump where the perspective is incorrect, I can put as many terrific details as I want, the sketch will look weird
